Abstract: Freedom of expression represents an important element in any democratic society, mass media playing an important role on monitoring the governance actions or other social and political actors. The special situation in Transnistria, unrecognized state as the international law demands, leads to the existence of special media features. We analyze the press in Transnistria from two perspectives - quantitative and qualitative, trying to offer information about the number and categories of media institutions, as traditional press and new media.
