Abstract: This paper discusses the taxonomy of semantic linkages that make it possible for the authorized user of a research digital library to declare different kinds of relationships among information objects of the library content. The structure of the taxonomy is considered and it is represented as a set of controlled semantic vocabularies of linkage classes. The creation of the taxonomy in a large research information system called Socionet is described, as well as a number of new options for the system’s users. These options are provided by virtue of the semantic enhancement of library content by the specification of semantic linkages
