The immaterial labor of journalist: relations of production, knowledge and reification

This research approaches the journalistic work, understanding it from the perspective of immaterial labor and as a producer of stuff in the Culture Industry, understood in its structural place in capitalist society. We discuss journalism and professionals in this area of activity on the development of this society and its relations with the common knowledge in dialogue with the world of life and the world of work. We also reflect on the knowledge that permeates the profession, related to professional culture and expectations of different actors interested in propagation of journalistic information, such as the State and the market. We argue that the way to produce this information, based on all kinds of information that circulate in society is sustained on a model of journalism that was consolidated by the development of capitalism. We intend to show how the product of this activity, the news - in addition to being itself the subjective interpretation of the producer, based on the immediate, fragmented and reified reality -, is constituted from the contradiction between different interests on this information, the limits imposed by the routine production, a specific parameter of social importance and validity, which is historical and social, from the requirements of the consumer market and others. We pointed out that some of these contradictions can be identified in the National Curriculum Guidelines for the degree courses in Journalism, established by the Ministry of Education in 2013, through a critical analysis of this document. The Guidelines, besides indicating another journalism relation with knowledge, this time, academic, refers to the formalization by the State of journalism professional requirements to meet the general demands and accomplish their social role. The Guidelines refer to the result of disputes over the legitimacy and recognition of the profession throughout history, which is based on a specific proposal of what should be the journalist and the news because of the needs of capitalism, of its society and its typical conflicts. All these discussions are made dialectically and the proposals and theoretical concepts are not separated from the method and are constituted in the development of all research.Mestre em EducaçãoEsta pesquisa trata do trabalho jornalístico, compreendendo-o a partir da perspectiva do trabalho imaterial e enquanto produtor de mercadoria na Indústria Cultural, entendida em seu lugar estrutural na sociedade capitalista. Discutimos o jornalismo e o profissional dessa área de atuação diante do desenvolvimento dessa mesma sociedade e em suas relações com o conhecimento comum, em diálogo com o mundo da vida e com o mundo do trabalho. Refletimos também acerca do conhecimento que permeia a profissão, relacionado à cultura profissional e às expectativas dos distintos atores interessados na divulgação da informação jornalística, como o Estado e o mercado. Defendemos que a forma de produzir essa informação, a partir de informações de todos os tipos que circulam em sociedade, está sustentada em um modelo de fazer jornalismo que foi consolidado junto ao desenvolvimento capitalista. Buscamos mostrar como o produto desta atividade, a notícia além de ser em si mesma a interpretação subjetiva do produtor, com base na realidade imediata, fragmentada e reificada constitui-se a partir da contradição entre diferentes interesses por essa informação, dos limites impostos pela rotina de produção, a partir de um parâmetro específico de importância e validade social, que é histórico e social, das exigências do mercado consumidor, entre outros. Apontamos que algumas dessas contradições podem ser identificadas nas Diretrizes Curriculares Nacionais para o curso de graduação em Jornalismo, estabelecidas pelo Ministério da Educação em 2013, por meio de uma análise crítica deste documento. As Diretrizes, além de indicarem mais uma relação do jornalismo com o conhecimento, desta vez, acadêmico, refere-se à formalização, pelo Estado, das exigências do profissional do jornalismo para atender às demandas gerais e cumprir seu papel social. Referem-se ao resultado das disputas pela legitimação e pelo reconhecimento desta profissão ao longo da história, que estão baseadas, por sua vez, em uma proposta específica do que devem ser o jornalista e a notícia, a partir das necessidades do capitalismo, de sua sociedade e seus conflitos típicos. Todas essas discussões são realizadas dialeticamente e as propostas e conceituações teóricas não são separadas do método, mas sim, constituem-se no desenvolvimento de toda a pesquisa
