Paleoturfa associada à evolução da drenagem/paisagem em uma vertente de vereda no Triângulo Mineiro

This study was based on a sequence soil/paleosoil exposed by a profile cut on the side of a gully on the right side of creek Beija Flor, near its spring (19° 21 29,8 S e 47° 58 47,8 W), in the county of Uberaba, MG. The soil is classified as a Ustept, presenting Acric character and, at the 4th level, it is Plinthic, (Plinthic Acrustept ). The paleosoil refers to a paleoturf. The geomorphological events that marked the evolution of local landscape, among which the peat burial, the paleodrainage and the present drainage, the presence of polyciclic soils and the phytogeography, led to this study, recognizing past vegetation and its evolution present Day, as well as the climate/pedoclimate in such recent geological past. Thus, this study was, essentially directed to carbon dating and the carbon isotopic composition in the soil organic matter, in the paleoturf and in the dominant plants surrounding the study site. Samples of soil and paleoturf were collected every 10 or 20 cm with a cutting shovel and knife, until the depth of 380 cm, for the isotope analyses and for dating by the method of 14C. The soil/paleoturf profile was described morphologically, sampled and characterized according to its physical and chemical properties. Leaf samples of the most frequent plant species were collected in a radius of approximately 50 meters around the profile site. These plants were identified and subjected to characterization of isotope composition (δ 13C) and determination of total organic carbon (TOC) contents. The paleoturf base presented approximate age of 20,272 cal years BP (calendar years before the present, based on present as year 1950) while the estimated age for the top of the same turf was estimated in 16,636 cal years BP, indicating that, in the interval of approximately 3,636 years, conditions for peat formation (organosoil) were present, during the dominion of C4 photosynthesis cycle plants. After the period of peat burial by mineral sediments, hydromorphic conditions prevailed for a period long enough for gleyization of this material, which was also favorable for the domination of C4 plants. The time lapse in which drainage improved (deepening of the water table) and, consequently, C4 plants started to co-exist with C3 plants was, at least, 378 cal years BP. That is the period in which data show a 13C isotope enrichment in the soil organic matter, resulting from a more effective occupation by C3 plants. Presently, there is a vegetation of C3 and C4 cycle the profile, and δ13C varied from -30.23 , isotope value for the species Pterodon pubescens (Benth.) Benth., which is a typical Fabaceae from the cerrado, and is less rich in 13C by approximately 19 in relation to the most enriched plant species in 13C (-10,81 ), which is the isotope value of Elionurus sp., a typical Poaceae of hydrophilic regions, with C4 photosyntheis cycle.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível SuperiorDoutor em AgronomiaEste estudo teve por base uma sequência solo/paleossolo exposta por um corte (perfil) aberto na borda de uma voçoroca à margem direita do ribeirão Beija Flor, próximo à sua nascente (19° 21 29,8 S e 47° 58 47,8 W), no município de Uberaba, MG. O solo se enquadra na classe Cambissolo Háplico, mas apresenta caráter Ácrico e, no 4º nível, é plitossólico. O paleossolo se refere a uma paleoturfa. Os eventos geomorfológicos que marcaram a evolução da paisagem local, dentre os quais a inumação da turfa, a paleodrenagem e a drenagem atual, a presença de solos policíclicos e a fitogeografia, suscitou o propósito de desenvolver este estudo tendo por objetivo reconhecer a vegetação pretérita e sua evolução para o quadro atual, bem como o clima/pedoclima neste passado geológico recente. Assim, este estudo foi, essencialmente, direcionado à datação do carbono e da composição isotópica do carbono da matéria orgânica do solo, da paleoturfa e das plantas dominantes em torno. Amostras de solo e paleoturfa foram coletadas a cada 10 ou 20 cm com auxílio de pá de corte e faca, até a profundidade de 380 cm, para a realização de análises isotópicas e para a datação pelo método do 14C. O perfil solo/paleoturfa também foi descrito morfologicamente, amostrado e caracterizado de acordo com atributos físicos e químicos. Foram coletadas amostras (folhas) das espécies vegetais de maior ocorrência num raio de aproximadamente 50 metros em torno do perfil. Estas plantas foram identificadas e submetidas à caracterização da composição isotópica (δ 13C) e determinação dos teores de carbono orgânico total (COT). A base da paleoturfa apresentou idade aproximada de 20.272 anos cal AP (anos calendário antes do presente, tendo como presente o ano de 1950) enquanto, no topo desta mesma turfa a idade foi estimada em 16.636 anos cal AP, indicando que num intervalo de aproximadamente 3.636 anos houve condições para a formação da turfa (Organossolo), durante o domínio de plantas de ciclo fotossintético C4. Após o período de inumação da turfa por sedimentos minerais, as condições hidromórficas prevaleceram por tempo suficiente para ocorrer a gleização deste material, período este que foi favorável ao domínio de plantas C4. O lapso de tempo em que começou a melhoria da drenagem (aprofundamento do lençol freático) e, consequentemente, plantas C4 começaram a coexistir com plantas C3 foi até, no mínimo, 378 anos cal AP. É a partir de quando os dados indicam um enriquecimento isotópico em 13C na matéria orgânica do solo resultante da ocupação mais efetiva de plantas C3. Atualmente há em torno do perfil vegetação de ciclo fotossintético C3 e C4, sendo que o δ13C variou entre -30,23 , valor isotópico da espécie Pterodon pubescens (Benth.) Benth., que é uma Fabaceae típica de cerrado, e é menos enriquecida em 13C em aproximadamente 19 em relação à espécie vegetal amostrada mais enriquecida em 13C (-10,81 ) que é o valor isotópico da espécie Elionurus sp, uma Poaceae típica de regiões higrófilas com ciclo fotossintético C4
