Hyperalgesia in individuals with knee osteoarthritis (OA) could be correlated with changes in muscle activity during unipodal squatting and understanding these correlations could be important for more effective therapeutic approaches. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of hyperalgesia on muscle activity during unipodal squatting in individuals with knee OA, and also to compare these variables between groups. Sixty individuals participated in the study: healthy group (HG n = 30, Age: 57.4 ± 6.86) and group with KOA (KOAG n = 30, Age: 59.4 ± 5.46). The knee KOAG should meet the diagnostic criteria of the American College of Rheumatology, and have uni or bilateral KOA from a mild to moderate involvement. The pain was evaluated using the WOMAC questionnaire, the pain visual analog scale (VAS) and the Pressure Pain Threshold (PPT) in dermatomes, myotomes and sclerotomes. The muscle activity was assessed during unipodal squatting. The results showed that although hyperalgesia is present in individuals with mild and moderate KOA, it does not correlate with electromyographic activity during unipodal squatting. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o efeito da hiperalgesia na atividade muscular durante o agachamento unipodal em indivíduos com OAJ, além de comparar essas variáveis entre grupos. Sessenta indivíduos participaram do estudo: grupo saudável (GS n=30, Idade: 57.4±6.86) e grupo com OAJ (GOAJ n=30, Idade: 59.4±5.46). O GOAJ deveria atender aos critérios diagnósticos do Colégio Americano de Reumatologia, ter OAJ uni ou bilateral de acometimento leve a moderado.
