EJA and popular education: an experience from the PMEA - Municipal Program of Education of Youths and Adults of the Municipality of Uberlândia-MG (1990-2016).

Contém gráficos e mapas.The present study aimed to analyze the Municipal program of Youth and Adult Education (PMEA) in Uberlândia-MG, from 1990 to 2016, comprising how it constituted, implemented and developed the program, also making an overview of EJA in Brazil and Municipality of Uberlândia from the Constitution of 1988, the moment in which the redemocratization of teaching is discussed after the military civil dictatorship. Starting from the different relationships between youth and adult education and popular education, this paper presents the concepts of popular, social and community education, opening up to the discussion of the characteristics that approximate and distance the Pmea of these molds. In the presentation of the program, the characteristics and specificities of its organization are presented, its performance as an educational program and identified the existing profiles of the subjects that are inserted. The study was conducted using documental and bibliographic research documents were consulted in the archives of the Youth and Adult Education center located in the Municipal Centre for Educational Studies and projects ( CEMEPE), having also as sources interviews with pupils and students, besides observation visits in the various spaces of the program, being recorded information on how these spaces constitute. Finally, the work seeks to retract the importance that the PMEA has for those who were not schooled in their own age or were insufficiently and discussing, from the stories of these people, the reasons that they had been deprived of school education , besides being for many a space of psychosocial coexistence.CBP&D/Café - Consórcio Brasileiro de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento do CaféDissertação (Mestrado)O presente estudo buscou analisar o Programa Municipal de Educação de Jovens e Adultos (PMEA), em Uberlândia-MG, no período de 1990 a 2016, compreendendo como se constituiu, implantou e desenvolveu o programa, fazendo também um panorama da EJA no Brasil e no município de Uberlândia a partir da Constituição de 1988, momento em que se tem a discussão da redemocratização do ensino, após a ditadura civil militar. Partindo das diferentes relações entre Educação de Jovens e Adultos e Educação Popular, este trabalho apresenta os conceitos de Educação popular, social e comunitária, abrindo para a discussão das características que aproximam e distanciam o PMEA desses moldes. Na apresentação do programa, são discorridas as características e especificidades de sua organização, sua atuação enquanto programa educacional e identificados os perfis existentes dos sujeitos que nesse se inserem. O estudo foi realizado tomando com base em pesquisa documental e bibliográfica, sendo realizadas consultas de documentos nos arquivos do Núcleo de Educação de Jovens e Adultos localizado no Centro Municipal de Estudos e Projetos Educacionais (CEMEPE), tendo também como fontes entrevistas realizadas com alunos e alunas, além de visitas de observação nos diversos espaços de atuação do programa, sendo registradas informações de como se constituem esses espaços. Por fim, o trabalho busca retratar a importância que o PMEA tem para aqueles que não foram escolarizados em idade própria ou foram de forma insuficiente e discutindo, a partir das histórias dessas pessoas, os motivos de os mesmos terem sido privados da educação escolar, além de ser para muitos um espaço de convivência psicossocial
