Use of Acupuncture in children with symptoms of hyperactivity, impulsiveness and/or inattention: an alternative for depathologizing the childhood

The symptoms of hyperactivity, impulsivity and inattention have been described as characteristics of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The increased frequency of diagnosis of this condition has led to an exacerbated use of medications. In contrast, the growing interest of contemporary society in approaches that consider the human being in a holistic way, in constant interaction with the environment, such as acupuncture, one of the strands of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effectiveness of ten sessions of systemic and / or auricular acupuncture in children aged three to six years, with symptoms of agitation, impulsivity and inattention. To do so, the participants were evaluated using MTC instruments, such as the energy diagnosis and the Ryodoraku instrument, plus psychodiagnostic instruments - detailed anamnesis with the parents; playtime with the children; and interviews with responsible teachers in school settings. After identification of the symptoms of hyperactivity, impulsivity and inattention, through the SNAP-IV questionnaire, ten sessions of systemic and/or auricular acupuncture were performed, involving the diagnosis of the meridians in imbalance, the stimulation of the systemic and atrial points, through silicon pellets and crystals, respectively. At the end of the treatment, interviews were made with parents and teachers of each participating child, in order to verify possible changes in their behaviors. The results indicated that the children became more attentive, less impulsive and agitated, which may constitute an alternative for the minimization of child despatologization. O aumento da frequência do diagnóstico desse quadro tem ocasionado um exacerbado uso de medicamentos. Em contrapartida, observa-se o interesse crescente da sociedade contemporânea em abordagens que consideram o ser humano de modo holístico, em constante interação com o ambiente, como a acupuntura, uma das vertentes da Medicina Tradicional Chinesa (MTC). O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar a efetividade de dez sessões de acupuntura sistêmica e auricular em crianças de três a seis anos, com sintomas de agitação, impulsividade e desatenção. Para tanto, os participantes foram avaliados por meio de instrumentos da MTC, como o diagnóstico energético e o aparelho Ryodoraku, acrescidos de instrumentos de psicodiagnóstico - anamnese detalhada com os responsáveis; hora lúdica com as crianças; e entrevistas com os professores responsáveis em ambiente escolar. Após a identificação dos indicativos dos sintomas de hiperatividade, impulsividade e desatenção, por meio do questionário SNAP-IV, foram realizadas dez sessões de acupuntura sistêmica e auricular, que envolviam o diagnóstico dos meridianos em desequilíbrio, a estimulação dos pontos sistêmicos e auriculares, através de pastilhas de silício e cristais. Ao final do tratamento, foram feitas entrevistas com pais e professores de cada criança participante, a fim de se verificar possíveis alterações em seus comportamentos. Os resultados indicaram que as crianças se tornaram mais atentas, menos impulsivas e agitadas, o que pode se constituir numa alternativa para a minimização da despatologicação infantil.
