Environmental Quality of the Surface Waters of the Ribeirão da Areia Watershed, Municipalities of Buriti Alegre and Morrinhos, Goiás

The present work has the objective of diagnose the environmental quality of surface waters in different portions of the Ribeirão da Areia Watershed, located in the south of the State of Goiás, being an important food producer in Brazil. For this, were outlined procedures and techniques for sampling water quality, by means of the collection and analysis of samples of 10 points during the dry and rainy periods, spatially distributed in the watershed, in order to contemplate high, medium and low courses of the main tributaries. In laboratory, were performed procedures according to SMEWW - Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater. The results of physico-chemical and microbiological variables were compared to the limits established by CONAMA Resolution No. 357/2005 for Class 2 waters. The weighted product of the calculation between these variables generated the WQI - Water Quality Index. During the field work, the RAP – Rapid Assessment of Rivers Protocol was also applied. The application of these methods allowed the understanding of the environmental framework of the waters and their respective environments, allowing the identification of possible changes that impacted the quality of water resources. Were used geoprocessing methods to the spatialization of informations. During the dry season, the results showed a variation of the WQI between 63.01 and 89.95, being only one point with classification of waters in "good" and the others in "optimal", according to the standard adopted for the State of Goiás. During the rainy season, the results showed indices varying between 62.18 and 85.77, being three points in good condition and the others in evaluated in "optimal". Was also evidenced the necessity of framing the water bodies in the respective classes of fresh waters of CONAMA Resolution No. 357/2005. The diagnostic of environmental adequacy allowed the identification of irregularities of the analyzed points against what is required by the Forest Code, specifically to the maintenance of permanent preservation areas. Almost in its entirety, the analyzed points, besides not maintaining the necessary width, presented problems also regarding the phytophysiognomic density. The forms of use and occupation had a significant role about this reality, especially those that are more present, such as pasture and agriculture. It is necessary that such researches be performed periodically, together with action plans of competent bodies, allowing to evaluate and identify environmental fragilities, enabling greater effectiveness in the performance of public power in the face of recurring problems.Tese (Doutorado)O presente trabalho tem por objetivo diagnosticar a qualidade ambiental de águas superficiais em diferentes porções da Bacia Hidrográfica do Ribeirão da Areia, localizada ao sul do Estado de Goiás, sendo este um importante produtor de alimentos no Brasil. Para tanto, foram delineados procedimentos e técnicas de amostragem de qualidade das águas, por meio da coleta e análise de amostras de 10 pontos durante os períodos seco e chuvoso, espacialmente distribuídos na bacia, de modo a contemplar alto, médio e baixo cursos dos principais afluentes. Em laboratório, foram realizados procedimentos de acordo com o SMEWW – Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater. Os resultados das variáveis físico-químicas e microbiológicas foram comparados aos limites estabelecidos pela Resolução CONAMA n.º 357/2005, para águas de Classe 2. O produto ponderado do cálculo entre estas variáveis gerou o IQA – Índice de Qualidade das Águas. Durante os trabalhos de campo, também foi aplicado o PAR – Protocolo de Avaliação Rápida de Rios. A aplicação de tais métodos permitiu a compreensão do quadro ambiental das águas e seus respectivos entornos, possibilitando a identificação de eventuais alterações que impactassem na qualidade dos recursos hídricos. Foram utilizados métodos de geoprocessamento para a espacialização das informações. Durante o período de estiagem, os resultados acusaram variação do IQA entre 63,01 e 89,95, estando apenas um ponto com classificação das águas em “boa” e os demais em “ótima”, conforme padrão adotado para o Estado de Goiás. Durante o período chuvoso, os resultados apontaram índices que variaram entre 62,18 e 85,77, estando três pontos em boa condição e os demais em avaliados em “ótima”. Foi evidenciada também a necessidade de enquadramento dos corpos hídricos nas respectivas classes de águas doces da Resolução CONAMA n.º 357/2005. O diagnóstico de adequação ambiental permitiu a identificação de irregularidades dos pontos analisados face ao que é exigido pelo Código Florestal, em específico à manutenção de áreas de preservação permanente. Em quase sua totalidade, os pontos analisados, além de não manterem a largura necessária, apresentaram problemas também quanto à densidade fitofisionômica. As formas de uso e ocupação tiveram papel significativo sobre essa realidade, sobretudo as que se fazem mais presentes, como pastagem e agricultura. É necessário que tais pesquisas sejam realizadas periodicamente, juntamente com planos de ação de órgãos competentes, permitindo avaliar e identificar fragilidades ambientais, possibilitando maior eficácia na atuação do poder público face aos problemas recorrentes
