The inclusion of women at high hierarchical levels in organizations is still marked by discrimination, inequality, social and gender stereotypes. The hardships that this public faces in ascending professionally is explained by glass ceiling phenomenon, defined as an invisible barrier that makes it harder for women to access positions of prominence and power. Thus, the goal of this study was to review the literature and the national production on female leadership, barriers and coping strategies. There was a limited number of publications on the topic of female leadership, and a smaller one still encompassing barriers and coping strategies.
