Germination, seedling emergence, productivity and fiber quality of Gossypium hirsutum L. cv. DP 660 under action of biostimulants

Cotton is the most important vegetable fiber for man who uses it as a raw material in the production of tissues which has intrinsic qualities unequaled to in other fibers. For this reason, the viability of the seed has been receiving special attention, since its quality is demonstrated in the subsequent cultures, in terms of uniformity, greater performance of plants and, consequently, greater productivity. The objective of this work was to quantify the effects and establish the appropriate concentrations of the Stimulate® bio-stimulant applied to seed or leaf, in the agronomic characteristics of field and laboratory and in the fiber properties cv. DP 660. The maternal effect was also evaluated in seeds deriving from parent plants which were cultivated under the effect of the same bio-stimulant. The field experiment was carried out on the experimental farm of the D&PL Brasil Ltda. in Uberlândia-MG, from January to July of 2007. The experimental design used was a completely randomized, with five treatments and four replications, including control (1); 15 (2) and 20 mL kg-1 in seed treatment (3); 15 mL kg-1 in seed treatment and 300 mL ha-1 in leaf spraying (4); 20 mL kg-1 in seed treatment and 300 mL ha-1 in leaf spraying (5). The germination experiments were carried out at the Ecophysiology Plant Laboratory of the Universidade Federal de Uberlândia, being installed in germination chamber between 25.5 and 26.0 ºC. The emergence experiments were installed in greenhouse covered with 50% light reducing screen, between 17.9 and 29.3 ºC. Data were collected every 24 hours; the protrusion of the embryo being observed for the experiments set up in the laboratory and the emergency of any part of the seedling above the substratum for the experiments maintained in greenhouse. The germination and emergence experiments were divided into two groups, the first being carried out with seeds originating from parent plants treated with biostimulant and the second group made with seeds treated directly with bio-stimulant. The seeds treated directly with the bio-stimulant were maintained in control (1) and with Stimulate® at doses of 15 (2), 20 (3), 25 (4) and 30 mL kg-1 seed (5). The bio-stimulant as seed treatment and leaf application did not alter the agronomic characteristics of field, nor did it alter the fiber properties significantly. The seeds produced by parent plant treated with bio-stimulant presented higher emergency percentage (96.87 ≤ E ≤ 100%), in relation to control treatment (94.53%), indicating that bio-stimulant application can benefit seed production fields. Em função disso, a viabilidade da semente tem recebido atenção especial, uma vez que sua qualidade é refletida na cultura subseqüente, em termos de uniformidade, de maior desempenho das plantas e, conseqüentemente, na maior produtividade. O objetivo deste trabalho foi quantificar os efeitos e estabelecer as concentrações adequadas do bioestimulante Stimulate® aplicado via semente e/ou foliar, nas características agronômicas de campo, de laboratório e nas características tecnológicas da pluma do algodoeiro cv DP 660. Avaliou-se também o efeito maternal nas sementes provenientes de plantas-mãe cultivadas sob efeito do mesmo bioestimulante. O experimento de campo foi conduzido na fazenda experimental de propriedade da D&PL Brasil Ltda. em Uberlândia-MG, nos meses de janeiro a julho de 2007. O delineamento utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado, com cinco tratamentos e quatro repetições, incluindo o controle (1); 15 (2) e; 20 mL kg-1 no tratamento de sementes (3); 15 mL kg-1 no tratamento de sementes e 300 mL ha-1 em pulverização foliar (4); 20 mL kg-1 no tratamento de sementes e 300 mL ha-1 em pulverização foliar (5). Os experimentos de germinação foram conduzidos no Laboratório de Ecofisiologia Vegetal da Universidade Federal de Uberlândia, sendo instalados em câmara de germinação, entre 25,5 e 26,0 ºC. Os experimentos de emergência foram instalados em estufa coberta com telado redutor de luminosidade 50%, entre 17,9 e 29,3 ºC. A coleta dos dados foi realizada a cada 24 horas, observando-se a protrusão do embrião para os experimentos montados em laboratório e a emergência de qualquer parte da plântula acima do substrato para os experimentos mantidos em estufa. Os experimentos de germinação e emergência foram divididos em dois grupos, sendo o primeiro realizado com sementes oriundas de plantas-mãe tratadas com bioestimulante e no segundo grupo realizado com sementes tratadas diretamente com o bioestimulante. As sementes tratadas diretamente com o bioestimulante foram mantidas no controle (1) e com Stimulate® nas doses de 15 (2), 20 (3), 25 (4) e 30 mL kg-1 de semente (5). O bioestimulante como tratamento de sementes e em aplicação foliar não alterou significativamente as características agronômicas de campo, nem as características tecnológicas da pluma do algodoeiro. As sementes produzidas por plantas-mãe tratadas com o bioestimulante apresentaram altos valores médios para a porcentagem de emergência (96,87 ≤ E ≤ 100%), sendo encontrada diferença estatística para essa característica em relação ao tratamento controle (94,53%), indicando que a aplicação do bioestimulante pode beneficiar os campos de produção de sementes.
