Physical attributes of a Latosol cultivated with sugarcane and fertilized with manure from intensive animal husbandry

The cultivation of sugarcane is in strong expansion in the Cerrado region, requiring management techniques to maintain the soil physical quality. The use of animal s manure from intensive husbandry constitutes an alternative to reduce the physical degradation of the poor soil use due to lower cost with chemical fertilizations and, mostly, making possible the sustainable use of manures that present great polluting potential. Thus, this research analyzed the use of manures in nature or composted as alternatives to minimize the negative impacts in the soil, from sugarcane cultivation, evaluating its effect in the soil s structure and other physical attributes. The area of the research was located in the Farm of Cia Mineira of Sugar and Alcohol, county of Uberlândia-MG. The experimental design was randomized blocks, in a 5x2x2 factorial, with split plots in space, corresponding to five types of fertilization: chicken manure, turkey manure, cattle manure, organic compost and the control, constituted of mineral fertilizer for the sugarcane plants, all of them combined, or not, with gypsum, previously mixed to the fertilizers and applied in the furrow; at two depths and two distinct times of the year, at the rainy and dry seasons. Soil samples were collected in January and July, in the depths of 0-25 cm and 25-50 cm, and were evaluated for dispersed clay in water, flocculation degree, aggregate stability in water, geometric average diameter, soil organic matter, soil density, microporosity, macroporosity and total porosity according of methodology described by Embrapa (1997). The data were submitted to the analysis of variance and the averages of the factors compared by the Tukey test at 0.05 of significance. It was observed that the different types of manures affected the soil physical attributes in distinct ways. The presence of gypsum, mixed to the different types of organic fertilizer, made possible a greater efficiency of these in the recovery of the majority of the analyzed physical attributes, and the greatest effect was observed for the depth of 25-50 cm in the soil. Among the types of organic fertilizer used, cattle manure mixed with or without gypsum was the one contributing the most to increase total porosity and to reduce soil density. The chemical fertilizer negatively affected dispersed clay in water and, consequently, the reduction of the soil flocculation degree. However, for the other fertilizers analyzed, the dispersed clay in water showed value reductions in the dry season, with greater movement of the clay in soil columns. The greatest values of geometric average diameter and soil organic matter were observed in the rainy season, while the presence of gypsum mixed to fertilizer favored the formation of greater aggregates in the depth of 25-50 cm. O uso de dejetos de animais de criação intensiva constitui uma alternativa para reduzir a degradação física, baixar custo com adubações químicas e, sobretudo possibilitar uso sustentável dos dejetos que apresentam grande efeito poluidor. Assim, esta pesquisa teve como objetivo estudar o uso de dejetos in natura ou compostado como uma alternativa para minimizar os impactos negativos no solo, advindos do cultivo da cana, avaliando sua influência na estruturação do solo e em outros atributos físicos. A área da pesquisa localizou-se na Fazenda da Cia Mineira de Açúcar e Álcool do Triângulo Mineiro Ltda, município de Uberlândia MG. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualisados (DBC), em esquema fatorial de parcelas subdivididas no espaço, em 5x2x2, correspondendo a cinco tipos de adubo: cama de frango (CF), cama de peru (CP), adubo compostado (AC), esterco bovino (EB) e a testemunha, constituída por fertilizante mineral para a cultura, o MAP, todos combinados com a presença e/ou a ausência de gesso agrícola, previamente misturado ao adubo e aplicado no sulco de plantio da canade- açúcar; analisado em duas profundidades e em duas épocas distintas do ano, período das chuvas e seco. Amostras de solo retiradas em janeiro e em julho, nas profundidades de 0-25 cm e 25-50 cm, foram avaliadas em argila dispersa em água, grau de floculação, estabilidade de agregados via úmida, avaliada através do diâmetro médio geométrico (DMG), matéria orgânica do solo (MOS), densidade do solo, microporosidade, macroporosidade e porosidade total, conforme metodologia descrita pela Embrapa (1997). Os resultados obtidos foram submetidos à análise de variância e às médias dos fatores comparadas pelo teste de Tukey ao nível de 0,05 de significância. Observou-se que os diferentes tipos de dejetos influenciaram de modo distinto os atributos físicos do solo. A presença do gesso agrícola, misturado aos diferentes tipos de adubos orgânicos, possibilitou uma maior eficiência destes na recuperação da maioria dos atributos físicos analisados, sendo o maior efeito para as profundidades de 25-50 cm no solo. Entre os tipos de adubos orgânicos utilizados, o esterco bovino misturado com e/ou sem gesso foi que mais contribuiu para aumentar a porosidade total e reduzir a densidade do solo. O adubo químico influenciou negativamente a quantidade de argila dispersa em água e consequentemente redução do grau de floculação do solo. Mas para os demais adubos analisados, a argila dispersa em água apresentou reduções dos valores no período seco. Para o DMG os maiores valores encontrados foram para o período chuvoso, a presença de gesso misturado aos adubos favoreceu a formação de agregados maiores na profundidade de 25-50 cm. A MOS apresentou diferença significativa para os diferentes adubos apenas no período chuvoso. O comportamento físico do solo, para os atributos avaliados, variou de modo distinto entre o período chuvoso e o período seco do ano, refletindo a importância da umidade no solo
