Evaluation of the main testicular lesions of mixed-breed dogs at Uberlândia - MG

The dog’s relevance in the society is increasing and that is why it is important to study their reproductive diseases. This study aims to obtain information about prevalence of testicular lesion in neutered dogs at Veterinary Hospital of the Federal University of Uberlândia, MG. For this experiment we used testicles of mixed-breed dogs, which were collected in the sterilization project at Federal University of Uberlândia. According to their size, the animals were divided into three groups designated as small dogs, medium dogs and large dogs. The testicles were separated from the epididymis, the testicular measurement was performed obtaining values of length, height, width, volume and weight and the testicle were divided into cranial, medial and caudal regions.. After the processing, the histological analysis of the samples was performed and the lesions that were found were degeneration, atrophy, focal hypoplasia, fibrosis and interstitial edema. The occurrence of degeneration and atrophy was the same for the three groups of dogs. The occurrence of fibrosis was higher in large dogs, while hypoplasia and edema were more frequent in small dogs. In general, there was a greater impairment of the medial and caudal regions of the testicles. In addition to this study, more researches are needed to compare the obtained data and achieve a better comprehension of this subject.CNPq - Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e TecnológicoTrabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação)Cada vez mais os cães ganham relevância na sociedade e por isso torna-se importante o estudo de suas doenças reprodutivas. Este estudo teve por objetivo obter informações sobre a prevalência de lesões testiculares em cães castrados no Hospital Veterinário da Universidade Federal de Uberlândia, MG. Para isso utilizaram-se testículos de cães sem raça definida, os quais foram coletados no Projeto de Castração da Universidade Federal de Uberlândia, MG. De acordo com o tamanho dos cães foi realizada a divisão de grupos de pequeno, médio e grande porte. Os testículos foram separados de seus epidídimos, foi realizada a mensuração testicular quanto ao comprimento, altura, largura, volume e peso e depois a divisão dos testículos em regiões cranial, medial e caudal. Após o processamento dos testículos, realizou-se a análise histológica das amostras obtidas, sendo que as lesões encontradas foram degeneração, atrofia, hipoplasia focal, fibrose e edema intersticial. A ocorrência de degeneração e atrofia foi igual nos diferentes portes. Já a ocorrência de fibrose, foi maior em cães de grande porte e de hipoplasia e edema foi maior em cães de pequeno porte. No geral, houve maior comprometimento das regiões medial e caudal dos testículos. Além deste trabalho ainda são necessários outros estudos na área para maior compreensão e comparação dos dados obtidos
