Characterization of tillers in pastures marandugrass deferred with heights and variable dose of nitrogen

This study was conducted in order to evaluate the structural characteristics of tillers in Brachiaria brizantha cv. Marandu under two sward heights (15 and 30 cm) and four nitrogen rates (control, 40, 80 and 120 kg ha-1) at the beginning of the deferral period. The experimental design was completely randomized with three replications and 4 x 2 factorial design. There was a linear increase in the number of vegetative tillers on the deferred pasture with 15 cm, with nitrogen fertilization. The length of the stem and the leaf blades in vegetative and reproductive tillers increased linearly with nitrogen in the deferred pastures with initial height of 15 and 30 cm. The weight of vegetative tillers was greater in the deferred pasture with 30 cm, compared to that of 15 cm, when pasture was fertilized with 0 and 40 kg/ha N. Nitrogen fertilization influenced positively and linearly the weight of vegetative tillers in deferred pastures with 15 and 30 cm, as well as the weight of reproductive tillers in deferred pastures with 30 cm. There was no effect of nitrogen fertilization on the live leaf blade:live stem ratio on either sward heights. The recommended management for the Brachiaria brizantha cv. Marandu pasture is 15 cm at the beginning of the deferral period. This pasture can be fertilized with variable nitrogen rates at the beginning of the deferral period, but doses above 80 kg/ha of N are not recommended.Mestre em Ciências VeterináriasEsse trabalho foi desenvolvido com o objetivo de avaliar as características estruturais de perfilhos em pastos de Brachiaria brizantha cv. Marandu sob duas alturas do pasto (15 e 30 cm) e quatro doses de nitrogênio (controle, 40, 80 e 120 kg ha-1) no início do período de diferimento. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado, com três repetições e com esquema fatorial 4 x 2. Houve aumento linear do número de perfilhos vegetativos no pasto diferido com 15 cm com a adubação nitrogenada. O comprimento do colmo e das lâminas foliares em perfilhos vegetativos e reprodutivos aumentou linearmente com a aplicação de nitrogênio nos pastos diferidos com altura inicial de 15 e 30 cm. O peso do perfilho vegetativo foi maior no pasto diferido com 30 cm, em relação àquele com 15 cm, quando o pasto foi adubado com 0 e 40 kg/ha de N. A adubação nitrogenada influenciou positivamente e linearmente o peso dos perfilhos vegetativos nos pastos diferidos com 15 e 30 cm, bem como o peso de perfilhos reprodutivos nos pastos diferidos com 30 cm. Não houve efeito da adubação nitrogenada sobre a relação lâmina foliar viva:colmo vivo nas duas alturas do pasto. O manejo do pasto de Brachiaria brizantha cv. Marandu recomendado é de 15 cm no início do período de diferimento. O pasto desta gramínea pode ser adubado com doses de nitrogênio variáveis no início do período de diferimento, porém não se recomenda doses acima de 80 kg/ha de N
