THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING CARD GAMES TO STUDENTS’ SPEAKING SKILL AT SMP MUHAMMADIYAH 8 BATU

This aim of the research is to investigate whether or not the use of Card Games technique is effective in improving students’ speaking skill at SMP Muhammadiyah 8 Batu. This research was conducted quantitatively through quasi-experimental research design. The sample of this research were second-grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 8 Batu. 8B class was used as a control class and 8C class was used as an experimental class. Both classes consisted of 66 students. Moreover, the researcher used performance test as the intrument of research,which consisted the students’ pre-test and post-test. To analyze the data, the researcher used indipendent t-test statitical in SPSS (Statistical Program for Social Science) 16 version. Based on the result of independent sample t-test analysis in pre-test and post-test , it showed that there were significant difference from the result of post-test between control and experimental class in which the mean of post-test from experimental was higher than control class. It can be seen that the mean of control class was 63.94 while the experimental class was 71.97. It means that H1 was accepted and H0 was rejected. Therefore, H1 stated that the use of card games is effective in improving students’ speaking skill.
