This paper reports on a study of the luminescence characteristics of KBe2BO3F2 (KBBF) and RbBe2BO3F2(RBBF) crystals in UV/visible spectral range. The KBBF crystals are very popular for their nonlinear optical properties, however they have a potential to be used as scintillators for neutron detection. To determine the effectiveness of KBBF scintillation we combine the results from measurements of optical absorption; radioluminescence; light yield; photoluminescence and decay kinetics in the temperature range 8-330 K.
