Underground mines are faced with economic and health challenges that urge them to move away from diesel equipment and towards electric equipment. However, the effects of such a transition in the design of the underground mine ventilation are yet to be thoroughly understood. The current study underlines how the full replacement of a diesel fleet with an electric fleet will affect ventilation, cooling demand, and relative costs in a conceptual underground metal mine situated in the Northern hemisphere. It focuses on the significance of heat generating mechanisms which contribute to the overall heat load of the mining operation.
