Systematics of nearctic «gimnomera» rondani (diptera scathophagidae)

The Nearctic species of the genus Gimnomera Rondani (Diptera: Scathophagidae) were revised. Eight species are now recognised from this region: G. aquilonia Chagnon sp. nov., G. cerea (Coquillett), G. cuneiventris (Zetterstedt), G. incisurata Malloch, G. subvittata (Malloch), G. terrywheeleri Chagnon sp. nov., G. tibialis (Malloch) and G. vockerothi Chagnon sp. nov., including two species with newly recognized Holarctic distributions. A phylogenetic analysis of 12 species of this genus, including 36 morphological characters, has also been conducted. For the first time, male and female genitalia characters were used as a source for descriptions and phylogeny. The monophyly of this group of species where supported and the analyses also confirmed that the Nearctic species of Gimnomera do not form a separate monophyletic group from the Palearctic ones. Following this study, the previously described species Gimnomera fasciventris has been assigned to the genus Acerocnema Becker (Diptera: Scathophagidae) prompting a systematic revision of the Nearctic species of this latter genus. Four species are now recognised from this region: A. fasciventris (Malloch) comb. nov., A. merga Chagnon sp. nov., A. rufula (Curran) and A. vanga Chagnon sp. nov.. Species delimitations of both genera are based on morphological characters and the barcode data of nine species of Gimnomera has also been phylogenetically analysed. Species description, diagnoses, photos of male terminalia as well as additional diagnostic characters and distributions maps are included. Separate keys to the Nearctic species of Gimnomera and Acerocnema are also provided.Une révision systématique et une analyse phylogénétique des espèces néarctiques du genre Gimnomera Rondani (Diptera: Scathophagidae) sont présentées.
