Mitochondria are dynamic cellular organelles known for their role in energy production, regulation of metabolism, calcium homeostasis and apoptosis. Recent findings emphasize the emerging role of mitochondria as critical intracellular regulators of innate immune responses to both pathogens and cell stress.
