The view from here: Cooperating teachers perspectives on how school administrators can encourage and support student teacher mentors

The student teaching practicum is a significant element of teacher training programmes and understanding how to achieve positive outcomes in that practicum is critical in developing educators of the highest quality. There is much research on this topic, but it is heavily oriented toward the student teacher. This thesis focuses on the needs of cooperating teachers and how school administrators can encourage and support teachers who serve as mentors to student teachers. By interviewing three cooperating teachers from different educational backgrounds, I discovered multiple ways in which administrators encourage the development of a school culture which values student teaching and which recognises how the whole school can benefit from the work of cooperating teachers who mentor pre-service teachers.Le stage en enseignant est un élément important des programmes de formation des enseignants et il est essentiel de comprendre comment obtenir des résultats positifs dans ce stage afin de former des éducateurs de la plus haute qualité. Beaucoup de recherches ont été faites sur le sujet, mais elles sont majoritairement orientées vers le stagiaire. Cette thèse se concentre sur les besoins des enseignants associés et sur la manière dont les directeurs d'écoles peuvent encourager et soutenir les enseignants qui servent de mentors aux stagiaires. En interrogeant trois enseignants associés de différents milieux scolaires, j'ai découvert de multiples façons d'aider les administrateurs à développer une culture scolaire qui valorise la formation des stagiaires et qui reconnaît comment l'école dans son ensemble, peut bénéficier du travail des enseignants associés qui servent de mentors aux stagiaires
