Polycyclic aromatic compounds are ubiquitous atmospheric pollutants with toxic, mutagenic, and carcinogenic properties. They are produced from the chemical reactions of their parent or related compounds in the atmosphere as well as from a wide variety of anthropogenic sources, such as fuel combustion.
