This research implements a new approach to classifying CORONA images. A case study demonstrated that information can be extracted from CORONA images using an automated classification process instead of on-screen manual digitising. This study, of the urban growth in Iraqi Kurdistan, has shown that the timeline of a change detection analysis can be extended to include the period before Landsat missions started in 1972.
