Ground movements, whether they are attributed to natural processes or to human activity, are often sufficient to cause damage to buildings and infrastructure. Subsidence measurements in the central parts of Gothenburg have been carried out for a long time. Metal pegs have been installed in several places around buildings and infrastructure. Currently, precision leveling of the pegs is carried out every fifth to seventh year by the City of Gothenburg, which requires a great deal of work. Satellite images cover a wide area and can provide additional information such as the magnitude and distribution of movements in an area.
