Deficit irrigation in olive table during drought sensitive phenological stage

In table olive, the recovery should start at the end of August in order to obtain commercial fruit size. The aim of this work was to control deficit irrigation during few weeks before harvest. The experiment was performed in the experimental farm of La Hampa (Coria del Río, Seville, Spain). Irrigation was stopped 4 (RDI-2) and 2 (RDI-1) weeks before harvest until a water stress level of -2 MPa of midday stem water potential. The comparison with a full irrigated control showed that this level was reached only in high fruit load seasons and did not reduce gas exchange. The effect in yield was not significant in any of the three seasons.
