Ichnofossiles du Maastrichtien, sites du Niger

47 pages, 3 figures, 19 planchesNot many ichnofossils can be found in the maastrichtian sites of Niger, but they show a great variety and original features. So a complete study of these fossils is imperative. We were able to distinguish twenty ichnogenera, and we created a new genus, Macrosiphon nov. Igen. for a great U-shaped horizontal burrow. Five ichnofacies are present : Trypanites ; Teredolites ; Skolithos ; Cruziana and Mermia ifc. Among them, Skolithos and Cruziana are dominant. This set of ichnofacies fairly corresponds to the main features of the biotope : a shallow sea with a quiet water, avarious and variable salinity, and an soil lacking in dioxygen. From the ichnogenera, we could work out a picture of the set of the taxa that created the tracks. This set of taxa is of course imprecise ; nevertheless, it constitutes the only available knowledge about the main part of the animal biomass of our sites.Les sites maastrichtiens du Niger contiennent peu d’ichnofossiles, mais ceux-ci sont suffisamment variés et atypiques pour mériter une étude approfondie. Nous avons réussi à mettre en évidence une vingtaine d’ichnogenres, dont un nouvel onomatophore, Macrosiphon nov. Igen. pour un terrier en forme de U horizontal. Cinq ichnofaciès sont décelables : Trypanites ; Teredolites ; Skolithos ; Cruziana ; Mermia ifc. Parmi eux, Skolithos et Cruziana sont les plus représentés. Cet ensemble correspond bien à ce qui est connu du biotope : une mer peu profonde, peu agitée, avecde fortes variations de salinité et une anoxie du sol. A partir des ichnogenres, un portrait a pu être élaboré de l’ensemble des taxons responsables des traces. Pour imprécis qu’il soit, c’est le seul éclairage qu’il est possible d’avoir sur une faune qui constitue une part prépondérante de la biomasse animale des sites
