Gilding, associated in medieval murals, with colors holds an important place within the iconographic themes. The inventory of sites in southwestern France shows that gilding was very present from the twelfth century. But the constituents of this type of decor are fragile. The metal foil has often disappeared and only the adhesive layer of organic origin remains. That's why we used the property of these fluorescent binders under UV light to detect the old golden areas. In areas of importance symbolically (halo of Christ, crown of the Virgin ...), when yellow fluorescences were visible, we found after analysis of micro-samples that these areas were remnants of gilding.
