International audienceAfrican companies are generally presented in the literature as being less efficient. Thus, several researchers have been interested in researching the causes of poor performance of these companies. Two main theses are culturalism and institutionalism. The first blames the indiscriminate transfer of Western management methods in Africa and the misdeeds of African culture. While the second blames the weakness of African institutions.
