Consumption of spiritual goods, a way to develop cultural capital: An inquiry on the New Age spiritualities in Iran

International audienceWith a descriptive-analytical approach, the present paper is interested on the lifestyle of people in Tehran who participate in the communities of New Age spiritualties, seeking a way of living in which they will be able to combine spiritual practices with prosperity, success, and perfection. We examine the social class, cultural status and activities, and the lifestyle of the members of two communities, one based on psychological approach and the other one mystical. The aim of this paper is to analyze how social origin and lifestyle of members weigh in motivations to join these communities.مصرف کالاهای معنوي، راهي براي افزايش سرمايه فرهنگي: نگاهی دیگر به معنویت‌های جدید در ایرانبحث از معنويت‌هاي جديد و رواج آنها در جامعه ايران چند سالي است که تاحدي توجه‌ها را به‌خود جلب کرده‌است. در این مقاله، با رویکردی توصیفی- تحلیلی به مطالعه موقعیت فرهنگی، اجتماعی، طبقاتی و سبک زندگی اعضای دو جمع مروج معنویت‌های جدید در تهران پرداخته‌ایم؛ یکی با رویکرد عرفانی و دیگری نوعی روان‌شناسی. بر اساس یافته‌های این پژوهش، به نظر می‌رسد بتوان معنویت‌های جدید را به مثابه نوعی مصرف فرهنگی و در ارتباط با دیگر انتخاب‌های افراد در سبک زندگی‌شان مورد مطالعه قرار داد. از این منظر، گرایش به این معنویت‌ها، لااقل در یک دوره زمانی مشخص و در میان طبقه متوسط تهرانی، راهی متمایز برای افزایش سرمایه فرهنگی و ابزاری برای کسب مشروعیت بیشتر تلقی می‌شود
