Three violin recitals were given in lieu of a written dissertation. The repertoire for these recitals was selected based on three major genres of the violin repertoire. The first recital, “Theme and Variations,” included highlights of theme and variation works in the violin repertoire ranging from Bach to Messiaen. The second recital, a lecture-recital titled “Dance,” illustrated how twentieth-century composers of different nationalities composed dances for the violin. The final recital, “Songs Without Words,” features a collection of lyrical works for the violin by five composers of different nationalities and time periods.
