\u3cp\u3eIn this paper, a new research of seasonal thermal storage is introduced. This study aims to maximize the utilization of renewable energy source and industrial waste heat (IWH) for urban district heating systems in both heating and non-heating seasons through the use of large-scale seasonal thermal storage. Based on this research, a demonstration project of a central solar-IWH heating system with 500,000 m\u3csup\u3e3\u3c/sup\u3e borehole thermal energy storage (BTES) is implemented in Chifeng, China.
