THESIS 9452Well preserved and taxonomically diverse miospore assemblages have been recovered from the uppermost Devonian and lower Mississippian strata of the Appalachian Basin, Eastern USA. Rock samples were collected from 13 localities in the region, including outcrop and borehole cores from four states; Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia and Pennsylvania. Several of field localities studied have not previously been sampled for palynological analysis. Sampling focused primarily upon on fine grained, organic rich mudrocks, shales and claystones. Samples were processed for palynostratigraphic and palynofacies analysis using standard techniques. Analysis was conducted using transmitted light microscopy.
