Facing up to gender inequality in ophthalmology and vision science

Ophthalmology and vision science professions have not been immune to the gender inequality seen in STEMM and other related industries. To oppose this historical and traditional predicament, an initiative is being pioneered by Dr Mariya Moosajee, Prof Julie Daniels and Dr Maryse Bailly, who are collectively breaking new ground to ensure equality across the profession. These women recognised a need for change and took action by establishing the Women in Vision UK (WVUK) network. Initially founded to increase the number of female speakers at conferences and on expert panels, it rapidly developed into a network of support, mentorship, collaboration and leadership to enhance the profiles and careers of women
