With reference to the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace document on "Vocation of the Business Leader", the paper argues that, since business practice is not a 'doing' and business ethics cannot be reduced to a 'code', business leadership for the common good is a matter of virtues. Virtue primarily consists in being true to one's vocation, engaging the full breadth of reason in action. Witnessing the "good reasons" for "good deeds" is as necessary as good deeds themselves are
