Aim: We studied the accuracy of a screening checklist (SPUTOVAMO), complete physical examination (top-to-toe inspection, TTI) and their combination in detecting child abuse in the emergency department (ED). Methods: Consecutive patients admitted to the ED of the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam between January 2011 and 1 July 2013 were included. An Expert Panel assigned a consensus diagnosis to positive cases. For all other and missed cases, the Child Abuse Counselling and Reporting Centre diagnosis was used.
