Background: Calcium supplements are widely used for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis. However, recent literature suggests that too much calcium supplementation may be associated with cardiovascular events (1). For this reason, calcium supplementation should be based on actual and adequate dietary calcium intake. A previously designed calcium intake list appeared to be invalid (2) and other alternatives are too time consuming for clinical practice.
