MicroRNAs (miRNAs), small non-coding RNAs, have emerged as important, epigenetic regulators of endothelial function. Metabolic disturbances such as diabetes alter miRNA expression. In adults, the miRNA transcriptome as well as endothelial function differ between the sexes.
