Anglo-Saxon style pottery and cultural changes

The study of Anglo-Saxon style pottery from the 4th and 5th century can provide more detailed information about the processes that took place during the Migration Period. So far, a fabric study and chronological analysis have been conducted. The fabric study shows that the way the pottery was produced in the different regions is similar to such an extent that no regional differences can be observed in the fabrics and finishes between the Anglo-Saxon style pottery in the different parts of the northern Netherlands and north-western Germany, the region from where the pottery was most likely introduced in the Netherlands. The chronological analysis shows that it is possible to make a distinction between an earlier and a later Anglo-Saxon style pottery, using radiocarbon dates and Bayesian modelling in Oxcal. The chronological information offers the basis for further stylistic research, which can provide more information on migrations and cultural interaction during this period
