Childhood anxiety disorders are highly prevalent and debilitating psychiatric conditions. Numerous studies have shown that anxiety disorders run in families. Children of anxiety-disordered parents have an elevated risk of developing an anxiety disorder as compared to children of nonanxious parents.1 However, it is not yet fully understood which mechanisms contribute to the familial aggregation of anxiety disorders
