Jet energy resolution measurement of the ATLAS detector using momentum balance

During 2015 to 2017, the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider has recorded 80fb−1 of proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energy of 13TeV. By far, the most common final state objects procured in these collisions are collimated showers of hadronic particles known as jets. In addition to their abundance, jets play key roles in many physics phenomena of interest at the LHC. Thus, accurate understanding of the detector’s jet measurements is essential. In this thesis, the jet energy resolution of the ATLAS detector is measured. Two novel techniques are developed to improve on precision of previous measurements. First, different sets of triggers are combined to increase the amount of useable data. Second, a new statistical fitting procedure based on convolution is implemented to determine the detector response. These methods are demonstrated to accurately measure the jet energy resolution
