This book describes changes in the Earth's climate from Cambrian to present. The complex interactions between the carbon cycle, continental distribution, tectonics, sea level variation, ocean circulation, temperature change and other parameters are highlighted. In particular, the carbon isotope record as an indicator of past climates is explored. The text proceeds in chronological order and is divided into warm and cool periods. A bibliographic reference list and subject index are included
