A new theoretical technique for the evaluation of reactive power is obtained from some mathematical definitions of reactive power. One of the advantages of the technique is the possible design of varmeters which are accurate over a wide range of input frequencies (e.g. measurement errors of ≤1% for frequencies in the range of 19 - 130 Hz for a system of order 2 and up to 5 - 500 Hz or 50 - 5000 Hz for a more complicated system). The main topic of this paper is to show whether the suggested reactive power definition may have practical applications when the frequency of the system varies within a determined bandwidth. Reactive power in nonsinusoidal situations may be measurable using this new varmeter
