While the specifi c studies on the history of revolutions do not seem to devote much space to the medieval age, the term “revolution” is instead used extensively and analogically to describe many political, economic, social and cultural phenomena of that era. The author rejects the idea that in the Middle Ages there were no real revolutions because he believed that the idea of revolution changed over the centuries and that we can not uncritically use our conception of revolution to judge those of the Middle Ages. In fact, on them the contemporaries preferred to remain silent due to the typical misoneism of that culture. Only those who opposed those changes emphasized its essentially subversive nature
