Among the lactic acid bacteria, lactobacilli are the most common microorganisms used as probiotics. Many different strains of Lactobacillus have been reported to be suitable probiotics for different hosts and new strains are being discovered as potential candidates. It has been suggested that there are beneficial lactic acid bacterial strains in human milk and feces, fermented foods and chicken intestines which can be used as probiotics.
