Zingiber montanum or locally known as bonglai is a rhizomatous perennial plant belonging to Zingiberaceae. This species is highly valued for its medicinal properties as it has been used in folk medicine for centuries. Pharmacological studies indicated that Z. montanum extracts possess antioxidant and antimicrobial agent. But in Malaysia, there is little study confirming these activities for Z. montanum. Moreover, this plant has been considered as underutilized especially in Malaysia.
