Provision of Effective Rural Library Services for Users\u27 Satisfaction in Anambra State

This study investigated provision of effective rural library services for users’ satisfaction in Anambra State. Five research questions guided the study. The descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The population comprised of thirteen (13) library staff and one hundred and five (105) users of the rural libraries studied. Two instruments comprising of questionnaire and observation checklist were used for the study. Descriptive statistics were used in analyzing data collected. Hypothesis was also tested at 0.05 level of significance with Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) to determine relationship between provision of effective rural library services and users’ satisfaction. Some of the findings were; that library resources available in the rural libraries are library staff, serials, etc but ICTs and audio visuals are not available; services patronized to a very high extent in the libraries are lending, reference, circulation, user-education etc; users are satisfied to a very high extent with some services; the libraries lack vital resources and services that will guarantee user satisfaction in this technological era. The study concluded that, there is positive relationship between provision of effective rural library services and user’s satisfaction. Based on the findings, the study recommended that, modern facilities like ICT should be provided in the rural libraries to ensure provision of modern services that will satisfy users’ expectation in this modern era. The management of the State Library Board, as well as the state government should address the challenges as identified in the study
