The idea that occupational noise exposure has been a cause of noise induced hearing loss has long been hypothesized and substantiated by research. This paper will briefly discuss the effects of noise on auditory function and quality of life, but more thoroughly outline the rules and regulations surrounding hazardous levels of noise in the workplace and the consequences for laborers exposed to that noise. Not only is it imperative to understand the numerous regulations for workers exposed to hazardous occupational noise, but it is helpful to know which federal agencies are responsible for the various policies and enforcement of those rules as well.
