A dissertation submitted to the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of the Witwatersrand, in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Medicine 2015The dissertation aims to discuss the disulphide and thiol chemistry for use in drug delivery. In particular it focuses on the use of the modified native ovalbumin polymer as a vehicle for the thiol containing captopril. The binding capabilities of thiols expand the area in which peptides and proteins can be used as potential therapeutic drug carriers. It is important that drug delivery systems enhance drug storage stability and in vivo particle stability while delivering the drug efficiently.
