A research report submitted to the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment, University of the Witwatersrand, in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Engineering Johannesburg, South Africa 11 August 2015This work reports for the first time in open literature, the beneficiation of South African coal fly ash (CFA) in oil well cementing operation. Firstly, CFA was characterized using X-ray Diffraction (XRD), X-ray Fluorescence (XRF), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), proximate and particle size analyses.
