The important role extensive reading plays in developing the linguistic skills andworld knowledge of the learners has been emphasized by researchers. Although extensivereading, by itself, is not sufficient for the development of fluent reading comprehensionabilities, such abilities cannot be developed without extensive reading. However, learnersin foreign language settings, like Turkey, generally do little reading in English beyondcourse requirements.
