Modelling techniques are becoming more prominent in the risk assessment of chemicals. Mechanistic models, such as individual-based models (IBM) with a foundation in the dynamic energy budget (DEB) theory, are increasingly promoted as alternative tools in ecological risk assessment. In this context, toxicokinetic-toxicodynamic (TKTD) models are often used to describe (sub-)lethal effects on the life cycle of the modelled organism.
