Introduction: intrahospital infections are complications in which several risk factors are combined, which can be susceptible to prevention and control. Objective: to characterize the infections associated with health care at Santiago de Jinotepe Regional Hospital in Carazo, Nicaragua during the period January to December 2016. Method: a descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out. The universe was constituted by the 153 infections reported in this hospital. The variables studied were age group, sex, hospitalization service and type of infection. The results were organized in frequency tables, the variables were expressed in numbers and percentages.
